First person to ever comment on my copyright info.
I don’t know whether to thank you are ask you: “Did I write something offensive here?”
“Enforcement of copyright. Carlotta Morrow takes the protection of her copyright very seriously. If she discovers that you have used its copyright materials in contravention of the license above, Carlotta Morrow may bring legal proceedings against you seeking monetary damages and an injunction to stop you using those materials. You could also be ordered to pay legal costs.”
How cute.
I studied copyright law in law school. I always find it fascating how quickly people become narcissists when they post originalmater on a blog. They begin to think that they are the re-incarnation of Dickens and someone out there might desire to steal their totally original and irreplacebly written thoughts and ideas.
Some general observations (which are more common sense than anything else).
If a person wishes to steal your material, such a person will steal your material. The fact that Carlotta “takes the protection of her copyright very seriously” will prevent nothing.
Moreoever, since the internet is a massive place, even if someone stole your work, you will likely never learn of it. (Thieves don’t tend to knock on your door to notify you of what they did.)
Finally, speaking as a person who was educated in the United States, do you understand the amount of money involved to file suit in federal court? Unless you’re earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from your Kwanzaa blog, a lawsuit to recover “monetary damages” would be pure foolishness. Even if I was wrong on that point, as a more practical matter, such a suit would likely be dismissed faster than you can say “fraudulent holiday.”
Knowing how human beings tend to think, I leave you with the address of MY blog. You can then search all of my writing just in case I stole any of your material: http://www.tsfiles.wordpress.com
